What is a Gifted Athletes Program?
The Gifted Athletes Program serves "unknown" high school aged basketball players who are gifted in their sport, but have little exposure to skilled coaching staffs, sufficient facilities and other such tools that will help them excel in their sport. These athletes are recruited from rural areas and overseas.
Along with intense basketball skills training, these students will be receive their high school education at our facility through a satellite program that uses a system of goal setting by each individual student and achievement recognition to teach self-discipline as part of the standard high school curriculum. In addition, each course gives assignments in character along with practical applications, promoting character development to compliment daily coursework.
Additionally, the program includes leadership training, and opportunities to apply these leadership skills in the community.
Although the specifics vary greatly, the typical profiles of participants interested in this type of program can be described by the following:
- The athlete is skilled, but has a desire to improve.
- They are able to score on a high school level in academic entrance exams.
- They are interested in attending a college or university and have a desire to seek out an athletic scholarship.
- They value the health/fitness, educational, charter-building and social experience they will receives as well as the actual athletic skill development aspect of the experience.
